PUTTING TIPS from the ONTIC Golf Group
"In the High Pressure of Competition, You’ve Got to Have Sole"
How important is putting to your golf score? Just think about the following, which you have heard before – "Drive for Show; Putt for dough." The Pro’s know it; top Amateurs know it. If you can’t putt, you’ll never have your best score.
We think our putters will make you a better putter. We also think the following tips will help:
YOU’RE JUST ONE PUTTER AWAY FROM YOUR BEST SCORE EVER: ONTIC PUTTERS!
· Golf is a great game; but it is a game. Enjoy the round and have fun! You’ll play better, feel better, and make more putts!
· All putts are straight putts! This is one of the most important things I’ve learned about putting. Think about it…Regardless of how much a putt will break, you must hit it on a line to the point on the green before gravity and slope take over. Visualize the line and pick a spot about 2 ft. in front of the ball and roll over that spot.
· Alignment: Equally important is setting your putter square to the target line. The putter should rest flat on the putting surface.
· Reading the Greens: You need to understand how the ball will be affected by the slope of the green. Side hill, uphill, downhill will need understanding. One tip on the side hill putt that is used by Lee Trevino, and one that I feel is important: If the putt breaks from right to left – move the ball back in your stance slightly. If the putt breaks from left to right, move the ball up in your stance.
Try it – it works!
· Always strike the ball in the center of the putter, period!
· Speed: Probably the single biggest reason why putts are made or missed. Rolling the ball at the right speed once you have the correct alignment and the correct target line will determine your putting success.
Remember, alignment and speed are the two most important points in becoming a better putter and making more putts. The ONTIC putter is designed to make you align better and to control speed.
